This week's RouteHero is... BikePGH! Our newest RouteHero is a Pittsburgh based cycling advocacy non-profit organization that focuses on education and getting their community members outside and active! Other big cities - take notes! Bike Pittsburgh is working hard on "transforming our streets and communities into vibrant, healthy places by making them safe and accessible for people to bike and walk”. What we found inspiring was their stated core values: Health and Livability, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Creativity, Strength, Sustainability, and (a large dose of) FUN! On August 25th, 2019 they are hosting their 26th annual PedalPGH event, Pennsylvania's Largest...

This week’s RouteHero* is The Verona Public Library! Their simple and forthright mission statement is what drew our attention and it gives us hope for the future as well! “The Verona Public Library enriches lives and builds community by providing opportunities to discover, connect, learn, and enjoy.” While their focus isn’t on athletics, they are very active in the humanities - being Heroes in their community, bringing support and enrichment to everyone. Every spring they have a fundraiser called Word on the Street 5k Run/Walk. All proceeds from that event go to the Verona Public Library Endowment Fund. This year...

The Colon Cancer Coalition was founded in 2004 by Kristin Lindquist after losing her sister to the disease. Kristin built an organization that has grown from the first fundraiser event - Get Your Rear In Gear - into a vibrant national coalition. They now host events in 40+ cities with more than 20,000 total participants that collectively raise over a million dollars annually. The Coalition’s...
